Intro

Years ago, I, “Stooge”, a diehard Saturday Night Live fan, did online reviews of the show in the more traditional sense (i.e. reviewing each new episode of the show shortly after it airs), but this “One SNL a Day” project will be different.  This is a project where I watch & do a review of an episode of the show once a day, going in chronological order from the very first episode ever. The project will stop when I reach whatever the newest episode happens to be at the time.

I’m very eager to see what it’ll be like to go through the SNL series in order and witness the show’s evolution. I’m also hoping that watching & reviewing the series in this way will help me to look at certain seasons in a different light from how I’ve looked at them before.

Credit goes to The Wicker Breaker, where I got the inspiration for this project.  He’s been doing the whole “post about one SNL episode a day in chronological order” thing since January 2017.

Here’s what to expect from my episode reviews:

    • Each segment will be reviewed individually in each episode I cover.
    • Each segment I review will be accompanied by a synopsis from Frank Serpas III’s SNL episode guide, Saturday Net.
    • The reviews will be written in “real-time”, meaning each segment review will be me typing out all the opinions/observations going on through my head as I’m watching the segment play out.
    • Segments will be rated on a scale of 1-5 stars.
    • Musical performances will not be reviewed, as I have no interest in doing that.
    • Each episode I review will be accompanied by a full set of screencaps I made from the episode.  A link to the episode’s screencaps page will be posted at the end of that episode’s review. [ADDENDUM: Some of the screencaps on the screencap pages might not load for you on the first try. I’m not sure why, but it might have to do with the large number of screencaps on this site in general. If there are any screencaps that don’t load for you on a screencaps page, try to reload the page (a few times, if you have to) to see if that’ll work.]
    • Only regular episodes will be reviewed. I won’t be reviewing any specials. [ADDENDUM: An exception has been made for the 40th Anniversary Special, which will be the ONLY special I’ll review. The review can be seen here.]

While my goal is to do one review a day, I understand that life is unpredictable, and thus, for one reason or another, I may end up having to go through some days, maybe even whole WEEKS, where it would be impossible for me to do a review. Barring any of those circumstances, I’ll do my best to get these reviews done on a daily basis.

This project officially kicked off on June 27, 2018. I officially ended my part of this project on April 13, 2021, a few seasons short of reaching my goal of ending this project when I have caught up to the most recently-aired episode, for reasons explained here. (My big, special farewell post after announcing my ending of this project can be seen here.) However, this project has continued on, as volunteers from the comments section of my site have graciously decided to keep my project going by reviewing the remaining episodes that I was going to review before deciding to end my project early. That continuation of my project can be seen here in a separate site, titled The “One SNL a Day” Project 2.0.

For anyone new to my site, please read this post before you start leaving comments in the comments section of my reviews. And please read this comment in regards to political discussion in the comments section of my reviews, and please also read this related follow-up comment I made in response to someone’s reply. Thank you.
